Default Skill transfer ?

My necromancer completed Prophecies so I decided I'd try a ranger, and so far I'm really liking it. My ranger sec profession is a Monk, and the only reason was to get rebirth. I see I can pick it up via Signet of Capture at Bloodstone Fen, otherwise I have to wait for a Crystal Desert trainer. I have read updates in the forum that talk about skills being open on an account vs on a character. Is there a way my necromancer can get this skill, for example, via signet, and make it available to my ranger so I can get it now ? TIA

It gets complicated.

Any skill that any of your character learns becomes "unlocked". Once it is unlocked, it's easier to get on other characters since:
A) all the skill trainers in the appropriate campaign will train it, not just the one that naturally has it.
B) you can use a tome of the appropriate profession to actually learn the skill. Buy a tome off a player, regulars are a coupel hundred gold. Elites a couple thousand.

You can also unlock a skill by playing PvP and spending the balthazzar faction to unlock it. You still need to learn it, though.

Also note that your heroes can use all unlocked skills.

If your Necro has access to the skill, and buys it from a skill trainer, it will be unlocked on the account. Once unlocked, any skill trainer in the game (since it is a core skill) can sell it to your Ranger. I wouldn't waste a signet of capture and the time to reach the boss.

buy it on your necro, it will be unlocked on your account, use a monk tome on your ranger to learn it on your ranger, done.

Thanks for the replies. OK, I see now how tomes work and how to get the skill on my ranger, assuming it's unlocked for my necro. However, my necromancer is N/Me., so unless you can signet a skill outside of your profession, I guess my ranger is going to have to be patient

Just to clarify - simply save your Necro's current N/Me build as a Template, change your Necro's secondary to Monk (via the guys in the Crystal Desert), buy the skill from the trainer in Ember Light Camp, and reload your saved N/Me Template.
The skill will then be "unlocked".

You could also unlock it with Balthazar Faction. You gain it mainly from PvP, but the PvP training mission Zaishen Challenge also rewards it. It's easy enough that even if you don't know anything about PvP you'll be able to win. The easiest one from my experience is the IW Mesmers.

Well, later in the game you get the ability to change your secondary profession, which makes things easier. But really, for a starting player - do some amateur PvP and you'll get the necessary faction quite quickly.

@OP - if you necro has finished Prophecies, then you should be able to change your secondary profession. Did you not do the quests in the Crystal Desert? http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Profe...Changer#Quests Complete those quests and you will be able to change your secondary in any outpost through your skill panel.
